Alameda County Backlog Elimination Project

Natasha’s Justice Project is seeking donations specifically to fund the rape kit backlog elimination project in Alameda County.  NJP’s efforts are ongoing in securing the funds needed to test each and every backlogged kit.

On Tuesday, February 25th, Natasha’s Justice Project was proud to join Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley as 100 unprocessed rape kits made their way to be tested. These first 100 kits will be just the beginning as we continue to support D.A. O’Malley’s efforts to test each and every unprocessed kit in Alameda County.

On Wednesday, March 27, 2013, Natasha’s Justice Project (NJP) and the Alameda County District Attorney’s office announced a partnership to resolve the rape kit backlog in that jurisdiction, focusing on testing ALL rape kits and not just those where the identity of the perpetrator is unknown.

The Alameda County DA’s office will coordinate testing of all the kits with a private lab, which will then be peer-reviewed before being uploaded to the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) national database.
